5 Years of European Climate Policy: What has been achieved? What are the Prospects?
The French National Outreach Event discussed policy options for advancing European climate goals based on 4i-TRACTION project results.
Since 2019, climate policies have been a priority for the European Union, with the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Finance Strategy. The European Commission has just proposed a new target of a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. How can we achieve this target? What should be the priorities of the next Commission? And what assessment can be made of these 5 years of climate policies?
To answer these questions, I4CE, in partnership with the Jacques Delors Institute and Strategic Perspectives, organised a conference on the afternoon of Monday 18 March 2024 in Paris, focusing on three key topics for thinking about the future of European climate policies, basing discussions on 4i-TRACTION project work:
- How can a new mode of governance emerge between the European Union, the Member States, citizens and businesses?
- How can we make the transition accessible to everyone, and in particular to the middle classes who are still poorly covered by current public policies?
- Are France and Europe giving themselves the means to invest in the future they want?
The event was held in French in a hybrid format, in-person in Paris with the option to attend online.
