Advisory Board

An External Advisory Board (EAB) supports the 4i-TRACTION project. The EAB has a dual function of providing (1) strategic steering for the project (e.g. helping to connect project work with relevant political processes) and 2) supporting quality assurance. The board members meet five times over the course of the project (every 6-9 month). They are invited to be part of the stakeholder engagement activities and to participate in relevant dissemination events – so that they can also experience project activities first hand and provide input to individual steps in the research process. The EAB consists of six members, representing on the one hand distinguished members of the academic world (2-3) and experienced policy practitioners in the field of EU climate policy (representing business and civil society and an EU institution (the European Commission)).

Florie Gonsolin

Director of Climate Change Transition at European Chemical Industry Council

Florie Gonsolin, a French national, joined Cefic in January 2017 as a Climate Change and Energy Manager and successively, as Director Climate Change Transformation. She manages the Climate Ambition and Industrial Transformation Issue Team and coordinates Cefic’s project on a Transition Monitoring System.

Florie is graduated International politics, law and economics (specialised in European politics) as well as business administration.

Wendel Trio

Independent Expert

Wendel Trio has been the Director of Climate Action Network Europe from September 2011 until October 2021. He now works as an independent expert. Before taking the leadership of the biggest climate change NGO network, he worked for more than 20 years in some of its biggest member organisations. This includes working as political director for Oxfam in Belgium, as campaign director for Greenpeace Belgium and as the international Director of the Policy and Business Unit of Greenpeace International. His engagement in climate change policy started long ago while being the representative of the Belgian National Advisory Council on Climate Change and Sustainable Development to the World Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

Sharon Turner

Legal Scholar on European Environmental Law & Visiting Professor at the University of Sussex

Sharon is an established member of the Environmental Law and governance community in Europe of over 30 years standing whose career has spanned senior appointments within the academic, civil society, philanthropic and public sectors. In addition to being Professor of Law at Queen’s University, UK, where she specialised in environmental law and governance for over 25 years, she has extensive senior executive and advisory experience in several complex public and third sector organisations; including secondment to government as a senior legal adviser, appointment as an Executive Director of the European Climate Foundation and membership of the senior leadership team at ClientEarth. She was Visiting Professor at University College London for several years and is now Visiting Professor at the University of Sussex. Sharon is also a self-employed consultant, based in London providing strategic advice on climate governance to climate philanthropy, public bodies, university and think tank research groups and the third sector.

Andreas Löschel

Chair of Environmental/Resource Economics and Sustainability at the Ruhr University of Bochum

Professor Andreas Löschel is Chair of Environmental/Resource Economics and Sustainability at the Ruhr University Bochum. During the academic year 2021/2022, he will also become an Alfried Krupp Senior Fellow at the Alfried Krupp Institute for Advanced Study in Greifswald. Since 2011 he has been Chair of the Expert Commission of the German government to monitor the energy transformation. Andreas Loeschel is a lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the Fifth and Sixth Assessment Report (2010-14, 2017-21). He is a member of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and a Visiting Chair Professor at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing.

Andrew Jordan

Professor of Environmental Sciences at University of East Anglia

Andrew Jordan is Professor of Environmental Sciences at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at University of East Anglia. His research focus is on the politics that emerge when attempts are made to govern environmental problems using the tools and methods of public policy. He has examined how these different forms of politics have played out in relation to different aspects of governing including the use of new policy instruments, policy coordination across sectors, policy innovation and policy dismantling. He undertakes comparative work on these topics in substantive policy areas such as climate change and sustainable development.

Damien Meadows

Head of Unit at European Commission DG CLIMA

Damien Meadows is the Acting Head of the European Commission's unit responsible for the International Carbon Market, aviation and maritime. Prior to that, from 2006, he was the Deputy Head of the European Commission's unit responsible for the EU emissions trading system. Between 2000 and 2004, he worked on the drafting, negotiation and implementation of the EU ETS, the EU's ratification of the Kyoto Protocol and other climate-related legislation. In addition, he has been involved in the negotiation of the REACH law that comprehensively reforms EU chemicals regulation.
